LitSIG: Connecting ELT, Literature, Extensive Reading & the Arts
Brighton 2018 PCE
Teaching Literature in Secondary Schools
The day will offer participants a series of talks and workshops on how to explore literature with teenage learners in secondary/high school contexts both English-speaking and in non-English speaking countries.
The presenters will share ideas on how both canon and contemporary works of literature can be explored both inside and outside the classroom to promote literacy, language awareness, critical thinking and the development of the four skills as well as tools for the fostering learner autonomy, intercultural awareness and citizenship education.
Talks and workshops will be delivered by experienced teachers, renowned ELT teacher trainers, and experts in the field of secondary/high school education, literature and English language teaching.
The SIG Open Forum is an opportunity for members and prospective members to meet the SIG committee. We will talk about the LitSIG’s activities over the past year and discuss future plans.
You don't need to be a LitSIG SIG member to come along, find out more about our SIG and meet others.
At the IATEFL Annual Conference, the Special Interest Groups list their SIG Showcase (previously known as SIG Days). These are selections of talks at the conference which are a sample of the breadth and variety of work being done around the world in each special interest field. Each SIG Day includes an Open Forum - your chance to hear about the SIG’s activities and talk to other members of the SIG.
